About MeMy name is Nick Santamaria. I am a sophomore Political Science major and Russian minor from Brewster, New York. I began my journey here at USC two years ago and have fallen in love with South Carolina and USC. My time in Student Government began my freshman year on the Professional & Academic Development Committee of Freshman Council. There I helped lay the foundation for a summer freshman mentoring program. In the spring of 2015 I was elected to serve as a Senator representing the College of Arts & Sciences. As chairman of the Academics Committee, I spearheaded the development of a program which allows USC students to buy business cards and resume packages at a discounted rate. All these experiences in student government, make me an ideal candidate for student body treasurer.

Why Me? |
For the past year I have served as the organization treasurer for USC Mock Trial. We are a competitive program of attorneys and witnesses who travel the country to go head to head against other schools in mock court cases. I was able to manage an rapidly expanding budget of over $15,000 using both the student government funding process and an independent bank account. I have grown to know the Student Organization Funding System inside and out. I know its strengths, and where we can best look to make things easier for student organizations to do what they love. As student body treasurer a big part of your job is to help student organizations thrive, and that's exactly what I intend to do. I want to make key improvements so that organizations can get their money easier, and enjoy all of the events, conferences, and guest speakers that come here to USC.

While At USC |
As a first generation college student it has been a dream come true to have the opportunity to attend USC. I've wasted no time getting involved on campus and have been a part of many groups over the past two years including Honors Council, Gamecock Sailing Club, and Relay For Life. Because of the amazing generosity of USC's Honors College and Study Abroad office I spent last May in the UK and the Netherlands studying comparative legal structures. This past summer I interned for a New York State Senator and am currently interning for South Carolina's special public defenders for death penalty cases. I have learned so much since coming to USC and am ready to put that to work as your Student Body Treasurer.
